Band Sawing

Sawing is a multipoint cutting process in which a workpiece is advanced into a moving continuous band that has teeth along one edge.  Parts may be severed from a workpiece.  Band sawing can likewise produce irregular or curved cuts.

Process Characteristics

Uses a flexible steel band with a toothed edge
Workpieces are fed into the cutting edge on vertical machines
Produces fine chips, a narrow cut/kerf, and fine feed marks
Can produce straight, irregular, or curved cuts
Produces uniform cutting action as a result of an evenly distributed tooth load
