Jig Boring

Jig boring is a single-point cutting operation used to produce a precise internal cylindrical surface by enlarging an existing opening in a workpiece.  The tool is rotated and advanced parallel to the axis of the hole in the workpiece.

Process Characteristics

Enlarges and straightens existing holes
Tool is rotated and advanced parallel to the axis of the hole in the workpiece
Bored hole location and dimensions are usually highly precise
Can maintain accurate relationships between multiple holes or surfaces
