Broaching

|

|
Broaching is a cutting operation where accurate sizing and finishing of
surface or shape is achieved by a single pass of a multipoint cutter (the
broach). The stock removal of the broach is built into the tool by having
each successive tooth cut deeper into the material. Thus, both roughing
and finishing cuts may be built into the same tool.
Process Characteristics
 | Uses a single pass for finished shapes or sized |
 | Produces close tolerances and good surface finish |
 | Uses a multipoint cutting tool (broach) |
 | Has the roughing and finishing teeth on the same tool |
 | Machine surfaces are parallel to axis of tool motion |
