Gear shaping is a multipoint machining process for generating
teeth by a reciprocating cutter. Gear shaping is one of the most versatile
of all gear cutting operations.
Process Characteristics
 | Uses a gear-shaped cutter that is reciprocated and rotated,
in relationship to a blank, to produce the gear teeth |
 | Cutters rotate in timed relationship with the workpiece |
 | Produces internal gears, external gears, and integral
gear-pinion arrangements |
