Routing

In routing, specially designed, high speed cutters trim and shape a variety of machinable materials.

Process Characteristics

Is typically limited to machining soft metals and rigid nonmetals
Uses small, specially designed cutters
Cutter is powered by high speed, electrical, or pneumatic motors
Cutter path is controlled by hand, with the aid of templates and routing fixtures, or by machine control
Can be used to gouge, contour, sculpt, and shape recessed cavities
