In routing, specially designed, high speed cutters trim and shape a variety
of machinable materials.
Process Characteristics
 | Is typically limited to machining soft metals and rigid
nonmetals |
 | Uses small, specially designed cutters |
 | Cutter is powered by high speed, electrical, or pneumatic
motors |
 | Cutter path is controlled by hand, with the aid of
templates and routing fixtures, or by machine control |
 | Can be used to gouge, contour, sculpt, and shape recessed
cavities |
