Sandblasting

Sandblasting is a cleaning process in which dry sand particles are propelled through a nozzle by compressed air to remove contaminants or burrs from the surface of a workpiece.  Other media that may be used include glass beads and silicon carbide.

Process Characteristics

Uses sand particles as medium
Propels the sand particles by compressed air
Uses a nozzle to direct the sand particles
Can be adapted for portable use
Produces finely textured matte surfaces
