Shearing

Shearing is a process for straight-line cutting of flat stock.  It is performed by forcing an upper blade and a lower blade past each other with a desired offset.  Usually, one blade is stationary.

Process Characteristics

Is used for straight-line cuts on flat sheet stock
Takes place between the upper and lower shear blades
Produces burred and slightly deformed edges
The blades can be mounted at an angle to reduce the necessary force required so that the relative length of material being cut at any given instant is small
