Thread Milling

Thread milling is a cutting process that uses a multipoint milling cutter to produce uniform helical threads on the internal or external surface of a cylinder or cone.  The cutter, or hob, is fed radially into the workpiece while the workpiece rotates slightly over one revolution to complete the threads.

Process Characteristics

Uses a multipoint thread milling cutter
Feeds the cutter radially and longitudinally into the workpiece as the workpiece rotates slightly over one revolution
Produces find feed lines
