Thread Cutting (Single Point Threading)

Thread Cutting is a machining process that uses a single-point tool to produce a uniform helical thread form on the internal or external surface of a cylinder or cone.

Process Characteristics

Produces helical thread forms
Requires multiple threading cuts
Uses accurately ground single-point threading tools
Produces stringy chips
Requires constant positional relationship between the tool, workpiece, and the leadscrew.
